Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships this year.

Competitors will gain the ability to question particular decisions made by the official, mirroring the protocol already in operation at both the US Open and the Aussie major.

The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles matches.

This development arrives only a year after the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which terminated the 147-year role of line officials.

Scope of Challenges

Competitors cannot to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can request the official to review specific decisions, including:

  • Whether a ball has double-bounced.
  • If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body during play.
  • Possible interference at the conclusion of a point.

Importantly, there will be no cap on the number of challenges a competitor can ask for.

Case in Point

A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "played the rules quite well."

The umpire viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

This technology aren't exclusive to major tournaments. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at every one of its events.

Additional Innovations

Another innovation at The Championships this year involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a shot was in or out.

Finally, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
