Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a man who noticed a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.

An important official stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
